In 1900, the public was invited to a spectacular event in Florence directed by John Robinson, where the management put up a big stand in front of the court house to witness the big parade.  It was duly noted that Florence merchants are jubilant over the prospective crowd that will be in the city from Wayne County, Tennessee, as well as Colbert County, will contribute a large number of people on the occasion.

The coming of Ringling’s great circus and menagerie in 1908 will be a big event here and will draw an immense crowd from all directions.  In this circus there are said to be 650 horses, and a contract was made with Mr. H.P. Lucas to furnish two car loads of hay and one car load of oats to supply them.  The Circus in Florence drew the largest crowd ever seen in the city and reliable statements agree that the number in the big tent exceeded 20,000.
